Why this site exists
Search for what ducted air conditioning costs and you’ll find installer pages with a price range and little explanation, cost guides that don’t say where their numbers come from, and Reddit threads where homeowners compare the quotes they actually received. Those threads are often the most useful result, and the hardest to make sense of.
Know Your Quote puts that information in order. Published installer prices, official tariff data and real homeowner quotes, checked against each other and dated, so you can see what a fair price looks like for your kind of home and what moves it up or down.

Who’s behind it
I’m Gabriel Reyes, the researcher and editor behind Know Your Quote. My background is in search and content research: my working days go into analysing what people search for and whether the pages that rank actually answer it.
I’m not a tradie, and I don’t install anything. What I do is gather the prices and data a homeowner doesn’t have time to cross-check, such as installer price lists, regulator tariffs and quotes shared on forums, and test them against each other before anything goes on the site. Where the data doesn’t hold up, I say so instead of filling the gap with a guess.
My research draws on public sources: published price lists, regulator data and quotes homeowners share openly. That’s why every figure on this site names its source and the month it was checked, and why How we research prices sets out the rules I follow.
What we don’t do
- We don’t install, sell or quote for any system.
- No installer, retailer or manufacturer pays to be included in our research or to change a figure.
- We don’t pass your details to installers.
